Twigs and Branches

July 19, 2010

I went to the doctor the other day. I won’t elaborate on the reasons for the visit, but I’ll summarize by saying that after she put her finger in my butt (with very little warning, I might add) and complimented me on the health of my prostate, she suggested I need more fiber in my diet. Not sure how she can tell all that with her finger, but I guess that’s what medical school is for.

So I started to check out different bread. And holy cow, there are a lot of different breads out there. Aside from the occasional rye, or maybe a pumpernickel, I’m basically a Wonder bread kind of guy, so I was surprised to find 7-grain, 15-grain, even 21-grain bread (upon further investigation, 5 of the 21 were really seeds).

So how many grains are there, anyway? I can only think of corn, oats, barley, wheat, and rice, and I question whether rice is really a grain. Seems to me it’s not, but I’m no botanist.

In any event, I’ll try to eat better. But I still don’t like lima beans.
